Over
25 years ago, the Peace and Reconciliation group (PRG) was founded by
a committed group of volunteers. Since that time, volunteers have left
a distinctive mark on the operations of the PRG. Current volunteers tackle
projects ranging from working with groups, to handling finances, to working
on publications. Long-term volunteers provide the bulk of voluntary help
within the organisation. Working for a period of 6 months to 10 years,
these volunteers work between 20 and 40 hours a week to enable PRG to
reach as much of the community as possible. International students who
complete internships with PRG while studying at the local Magee College
University of Ulster
provide other essential help. Finally, members of PRG's Management Committee
give hours of personal time each month to advise and guide the development
of the organisation.

A
worker fills a special long-term voluntary position every 2 years from
the Brethren
Volunteer Service (BVS). An American organisation, BVS provides volunteers
to locally based projects worldwide. BVS volunteers have worked with the
PRG since 1997 and throughout Northern Ireland since 1972. BVS volunteers
at the PRG serve as a member of staff under the title Assistant Projects
Officer. Duties can range from group facilitation to project development
