Introduction Conflict Resolution & Mediation Skills Course

Course Design:
This course is designed to give participants an introduction to mediation.

Course Aims :
* Explore the dynamics of conflict
* Understand different responses to conflict.
* Examine how behaviour contributes to conflict.
* Enable people to work positively with diverse individuals and groups

* Introduce participants to the mediation process.
* Give participants practice in using basic mediation skills.

Course Objectives:
This course is designed to help individuals build an initial understanding of how mediation works. It will provide clear working definitions of mediation and other forms of conflict resolution techniques. The course will give participants an idea of the key skills and qualities of a mediator through experiential learning techniques.

While helping people to explore the negative and positive sides of conflict it is hoped that by the end of the course participants will have gained skills that will be adaptable for use in the workplace.

Course Work:
It is our expectation that there will be 100% attendance and participants will complete a written critique of a mediation session.

Duration:
This course requires 15 hours direct tutor input and 15 hours home study. However it can be adapted to include more tutor hours and less home study.
