Dealing with the Past, Shaping the Future

"Dealing with the Past, Shaping the Future" is an innovative new PRG project, funded by the Peace III programme and was officially launched by Mr. Dennis Bradley on 1st May at the Everglades Hotel.

Guest speakers included Derry City Council Mayor Gerald Diver, INCORE director Brandon Hamber and Dennis Bradley, who all pledged their full support to the project and acknowledged it's relevance in today's post conflict society. Paul Skinnader of Border Action represented the Peace III funding programme which is supporting this project. Also in attendance were Mayor and Mayoress Victor and Victoria Robinson of Newtownabbey Borough Council and 60 + representatives from statutory agencies, community and voluntary organisations from both sides of the border.

The main focus of this project will be to engage with cross border statutory and voluntary organisations and individuals to develop programmes that will deal with the past and help pave the way for our divided communities to be reconciled.

This project will deliver through three main areas: Training, family residentials and creating forums for discussion. Our partners in this project, Donegal Youth Service, An Teach Ban and Ex prisoners Outreach Programme will assist in recruitment for the training, but anyone working in this sector will be able to avail of this free training.

The second element will be family respite residentials at the Corrymeela centre in Ballycastle. These will be held annually over the next three years and are open to families from interface and single identity areas across Derry / Londonderry and Donegal. For more information click here

The third element will focus on creating space for dialogue forums to look at ways and means of dealing with the past.
